Moccasin Stew Puppet Show

Adapted from a Southwest Native American folktale, Moccasin Stew is the story of Coyote, who is always outwitted by the creatures he wants to eat. The cast includes Hank, the rabbit chef; a Bluefish who sings the blues; a tricky Magic Fish; and a clever Quail who fools Coyote time and time again. The audience changes the scenery with a magic chant, assists Hank in his gourmet cooking, and helps Quail make key decisions. Moccasin Stew teaches lessons in forgiveness and resourcefulness.

Maggie Whalen, Director of Magpie Puppets, a one-woman hand puppet theater, has been performing puppet shows for children and adults since 1969.

In 1971, Maggie founded and directed Poor People's Puppets in NYC, which performed in its own storefront theater from 1971 to 1974. She has worked with the Bread & Puppet Theatre in Vermont and Luna Theater, formerly of Somerville, MA.

In addition to performing, Maggie teaches puppet-making workshops and builds custom-made puppets for theaters, filmmakers and individuals. She is an active member of the Boston Area Guild of Puppetry. She is also a member of Puppeteers of America.

Memorial Day Parade

The Friends of the Stoneham Library had a truck decorated for the Memorial Day Parade, May 24th, 2025. We had such amazing support from the crowd and it was a wondering town event.

Thank you Stoneham Ford for letting us use a new Electric Truck for this event!
